Rachel Nixon
Editing

Writing is like seed growing in a garden. First, the roots grow down into the soil and anchor the plant in the ground. Good writing needs to be anchored in the form of structure. Next, a shoot grows upwards towards the sun, absorbing water and minerals. Your writing grows like the shoot as you create your story bit by bit, feeding it good ideas and fertilising it with nutritious language until it is fully grown and ready to blossom. To make your writing bloom, 'weeding' and 'pruning' is needed and that's where I come in with editing and proofreading.

Testimonials

"I have been working with Rachel on my manuscript for about eighteen months now - the delays are all my end! We clicked from the start. She manages to balance respect and encouragement with a critical eye that has yet to steer me wrong. I’ve been impressed with the way she has completely bought into my story, taking time to study something new to ensure she is advising me correctly. For instance, I have two languages in my manuscript so she has taken care to check my grammar is correct in both.
Rachel is both an editor and a writer and in both roles she has been an example of having confidence in what she does know and courage to continue to learn. I would recommend Rachel to any author, regardless of genre, not just as an editor, but as an encourager and mentor."

"Rachel was a tremendous help for my book. She gave me a solid structure to frame my ideas. Having that good foundation steered me in the right direction. I recommend her services.

Rachel was incredibly quick to contact, taught me better ways of setting stories out, and has a funny sense of humor. She has great suggestions that were helpful with accuracy of the stories.

Rachel very kindly stepped out of her fiction shoes to copy edit and proof my non-fiction book on tackling insomnia. She caught many unintended errors and made very helpful suggestions on the overall structure, pace and tone of the book overall. Very pleased with Rachel’s editing services. It’s hard to spot errors myself and I didn’t want paying readers to do it for me! Thanks to Rachel, I’m confident I’m now putting my best book forward, still in my voice but even better!

Rachel's work on my manuscript was invaluable. Her developmental report was in-depth, and her line editing top-notch as she took into consideration both professionalism and my personal writing style. She made great suggestions regarding the structure of the manuscript, and was clear about where improvements could be made. I wouldn't hesitate to work with her again!

Rachel has an enthusiasm for my psychological thriller that matches my own. As I am a first-time novella writer, Rachel has helped me feel capable, while also gently pointing out areas that need improvement. Her guidance has been valuable, particularly on where to extend my characters and their journeys.

Rachel has been thorough in her editing of my children’s picture book. As a first-time author I have been very encouraged by her comprehensive assessment of my manuscript. I recommend her as an editor who gives constructive feedback back in a concise and applicable format. I have been impressed by her careful analysis and thoughtful suggestions. Rachel is clearly very knowledgeable in the art of writing and editing. She has helped me pinpoint things I can improve and has suggested approaches I could take to mitigate the things I struggled with. I appreciate her summary which was sincere, honest and encouraging. I’m certain that she will be an asset to any who look to her for editing advice.
